Territorial Acknowledgement

The Sport Medicine Council of Alberta (SMCA) recognizes and honors that the traditional territories of the First Nations, Métis, and Inuit span across this entire province. We deeply appreciate the diverse Indigenous histories, languages, ceremonies, and cultures that have shaped these lands for countless generations. We acknowledge the land as an act of reconciliation and express our gratitude to the Indigenous peoples, both past and present, for their enduring stewardship and connection to those whose territory we reside on or are visiting.

The Sport Medicine Council of Alberta's office is situated on Treaty 6 Territory and within the Métis homelands and Métis Nation of Alberta Region 4.

Indigenous Canada

Indigenous Canada is a 12-lesson Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) from the Faculty of Native Studies that explores the different histories and contemporary perspectives of Indigenous peoples living in Canada. 

From an Indigenous perspective, this course explores complex experiences Indigenous peoples face today from a historical and critical perspective highlighting national and local Indigenous-settler relations. Indigenous Canada is for students from faculties outside the Faculty of Native Studies with an interest in acquiring a basic familiarity with Indigenous/non-Indigenous relationships.
